Corrado BetterlePadova University, Italy Email: corrado.betterle@unipd.it Corrado Betterle is a Professor at the Lab of Endocrine Autoimmunity at the University of Padova. The work of professor Betterle and his group focuses on the value of autoantibodies as serological markers of clinical, subclinical or potential autoimmune diseases. The group of professor Betterle has made important discoveries on the value of adrenal cortex/21-OH autoantibody, steroidogenic antibodies, pancreatic autoantibodies and tranglutaminase autoantibodies. The lab is a reference center for National Standardisation of organ specific autoantibodies. The Endocrine Unit at Padova University is a reference centre for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with organ specific autoimmune diseases or with autoimmune polyglandular syndromes. Our laboratory has for decades been dedicated to studies of AAD. We have built up a large patient registry and participate in the Italian Addison Network. We have made important contributions to studies of autoantibodies and their correlation to clinical manifestations in autoimmune polyglandular failure. Using our large patient cohorts we have performed a number of studies to define individuals at risk of developing Addison’s disease. Finally, we have extensive experience in mapping of epitopes of antigens involved in Addison’s disease and APS I The group of Betterle currently follows more than 500 patients with clinical Addison’s disease of various aetiologies and will be one of the largest contributors to the patient registry in Euradrenal. We will perform an epidemiological study of Addison’s disease in the Padua region and contribute to the description of the natural course of AAD
